The Queen Creek Unified School District is celebrating Music in Our Schools Month.
This month, QCUSD celebrates “the skills and achievements of our students and music programs. Music programs within QCUSD foster creativity and inspire students to excel,” a press release from QCUSD stated.
At Queen Creek High School, students can participate in a diverse range of music programs including band, orchestra, guitar and choir. Recent accomplishments include the choir earning a "superior" rating at the ACE Choral Festival, and 10 students from various music programs were selected for the Arizona Music Educators Association Central Region Honor Band and Orchestra.
The band, orchestra and guitar programs have delivered spring concerts. Additionally, the Queen Creek Theater Company will be presenting “Chicago (Teen Edition)” as its spring musical.
At Eastmark High School, students can participate in choir, band and orchestra programs. Noteworthy achievements from this school year include the EHS symphonic band receiving a "superior with distinction" rating at the ABODA Fall Band Festival. Additionally, seven EHS students were selected for the All-Region Honor Band, Orchestra, and Choir. In April, the school orchestra will take a trip to California.
The EHS Theater Company will perform “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for its spring musical.
Crismon High School students can participate in choir, band and orchestra programs. The CHS orchestra recently showcased its talents with two performances at the Crismon Performing Arts Center, as well as a district-combined concert with Mark Wood, one of the founders of the original Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Both the band and orchestra groups are gearing up to perform at the upcoming Arizona Band and Orchestra Association event.
Queen Creek Junior High and Newell Barney College Prep also offer band and orchestra programs.
At Newell Barney College Prep, the band performed the national anthem for the Veterans Day celebration. Both the Newell Barney College Prep and Queen Creek Junior High School orchestras, along with orchestras from across the district, also performed with Wood.
Newell Barney College Prep and Queen Creek Junior High School orchestras held their spring concert on March 6 at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center alongside QCHS orchestra students.
Elementary schools in QCUSD offer music programs tailored for younger students, providing a foundational knowledge of music fundamentals. Once in the fifth grade, students can explore more advanced options, such as band or orchestra, allowing them to further develop their musical talents and interests.
