This month, Tempe’s Free Art Friday, Tots Takeover, presents a bonus Saturday as the city offers the same great art activities, music and more on both days.

Tots take the wheel for the final Free Art Friday events of the season on April 19 and 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Edna Vihel Arts Center, 3340 S. Rural Road.

Celebrate their natural wonder and creativity as they take the lead in their artistic journey, a city release stated. With interactive arts activities, sensory play and captivating storytelling, families can enjoy a morning with the endless possibilities of a tot's imagination.

No registration is required. Light refreshments will be provided.

What to expect:

  • A live theatre performance by Wolfe Bowarte of Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre, titled WoBo Show: Clouds;
  • Art activities include "toddler graffiti" sidewalk chalk art, garden-themed sensory dough and a personalized marbled visor;
  • Music and movement activity with licensed music therapist Emily Bruso of Natural Notes;
  • Baby Scientist sensory activities with the Emerging Minds Lab and the Sensory Play Area that allows children to explore textures, scents and sounds; and
  • Coffee for the grown-ups for purchase from Eis Cafe on Friday and La Vida Oats on Saturday.

This program is partially funded by a grant from the Tempe Diablos.
