Sun City West Sportsman’s Club sets April meeting, speaker

The Sportsman’s Club offers men and women a multitude of other outdoor Arizona activities, including ATV/UTV riders, Big Wheels, Easy Riders, birding, boat fishing, shore fishing, GEOcaching, horseback riding, clay and target shooting, hiking, walking/jogging and Masters Swimming.

The Sun City West Sportsman’s Club will meet 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the R.H. Johnson Social Hall.
Members can meet with the various group leaders from 1 to 1:30 p.m. to have their questions answered. There will then be a short business meeting starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by the meeting guest speaker.
The speaker for the April meeting will be Chris Howard, who will talk about “Sustainability and Recycling-Lessons From a Small Island.”
April will be the last monthly meeting for the 2023-24 season. The next monthly meeting will be Monday, Sept. 16, the beginning of the 2024-25 season.
The hiking group continues with weekly hikes through the summer. Firebird hiking season begins May 1 (meet at 5:45 a.m., leave at 6 a.m.) and continues through Sept. 30. Meet in area 14 of the R.H. Johnson parking lot to sign liability waivers and pair up drivers and riders. April hikes meet at 7:15 a.m., leaving at 7:30 a.m. Michael Anenen is the hike coordinator and communicator. He will send emails each week detailing the upcoming hike and he and several other volunteers will lead the C and B hikes.
The SCW Masters Swimmers continue to have coached workouts 7-8:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the R.H. Johnson pool through May. During the months of June, July and August, non-coached workouts continue, with experienced Master Swimmers present to help and answer questions. Any Sun City West resident interested in swimming is welcome to attend.
