HENDERSHOT: Letter writer tries to undo kindness

Posted

This is in reference to a letter (“Was it artist stealing rocks from yard?” posted on yourvalley.net May 8, 2020) by Sun City West resident Brian Reilly.

I was horrified reading this article and so are many Sun City West residents. I would like to address Mr. Reilly’s foolishness and acrimonious words.

Throughout Brian Reilly’s article, he quoted me from the recent article about my kindness rocks. He tried to drag me down and undo the good nature of my interview and benevolent acts. He doesn’t give my name, but by using “artist” and direct quotes from my interview, he certainly implicates me.

What a sad individual he is for making his event public and attempting to connect it to me, even though he made a half-hearted attempt to add a disclaimer stating that the photo in my article didn’t allow him to positively identify me as the perp. He stated it was “an older woman with short white hair and a white golf car.” FYI, I am not old and do not have white hair, but I’m sure there are many in a retirement community who would fit that bill! It was not me. If this had been my experience, I would well remember it, but nothing like this has ever happened to me. I have many kind Sun City West residents who have allowed me to scour their properties for my rocks. I have no need to “trespass” on Mr. Reilly’s property or anyone else’s.

Unfortunately, Mr. Reilly had his alleged experience in close time proximity to the article about my hand painted kindness rocks. I feel that his lack of ability to positively identify his perp has cast a shadow of doubt over my act of kindness and may color the joy my rock finders were getting, especially during these trying times, after reading his letter.

It is my hope that his effort in trying to embarrass the woman who was at his yard’s edge will not make me second guess my desire to bring a bit of happiness into someone else’s life.
