Burglary suspect attacks family inside Phoenix home: PD

A 25-year-old man is behind bars after Phoenix police captured him following a burglary attempt inside a Phoenix home where they say he assaulted members of a family.

Phoenix police responded to a burglary call about 11 p.m. April 14 near 27th Street and Edgemont Avenue.

At the home, officers were told the suspect had left, and detectives assumed the investigation. They learned a man contacted a boy who was in his room and that his actions established probable cause to arrest him for sexually motivated crimes, according to a release.

While the man was in the room with the boy, the child’s mother entered and confronted the suspect, who "immediately attacked the mother as she was screaming,” the release stated.

The suspect also attacked the child’s father as he entered the room, and a fight occurred until the suspect and father left the house to the backyard where the altercation ended. The suspect jumped a wall and ran away.

Within hours, detectives identified the suspect as Abdullahi Aroni, 25. He was arrested on April 15. A search warrant was served on his residence, and evidence linking him to the April 14 incident was found, police said.

Aroni was interviewed and subsequently booked on multiple charges including sexual conduct with a minor, burglary and multiple counts of assault.
