Online sessions are part of National Heart Month in February

Abrazo Health, which operates Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, is registering participants for a free virtual webinar series on women’s heart health scheduled for Feb. 15 to 19.
February is National Hearth Month, when health professionals remind the community that while heart disease is prevalent among both women and men, it can be managed, and in some cases, prevented altogether.
Webinar topics include:
“Heart disease: Is it really the silent killer?” presented by Dr. Aye Win at noon Monday, Feb. 15;
“Management of atherosclerosis peripheral disease,” presented by Dr. Dawn Olsen at noon Tuesday, Feb. 16;
“Relationship between smoking, heart disease and stroke,” presented by Dr. Emun Abdu at noon Wednesday, Feb. 17;
“Why women shouldn’t ignore chest pain and fatigue,” presented by Dr. Sheena Prakash at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17;
“Atrial fibrillation or irregular heartbeat,” presented by Dr. Divya Varma at noon Thursday, Feb. 18; and
“Lipid management,” presented by Dr. Kris Sellberg at noon Friday, Feb. 19.

The most common forms of heart disease are heart failure, heart valve disease, coronary artery disease and irregular heartbeat, according to a news release. Traditional risk factors for heart disease — such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity — affect women and men equally. It’s an equal opportunity condition.
The good news is that there are many new treatment options for heart disease that not only allow patients to live longer but also improve their quality of life, the release stated.
More information on the subject is available at the heath care company’s website.
In addition to its Goodyear campus, Abrazo Health operates Abrazo Buckeye Emergency Center in Buckeye, MedPost Urgent Care Center in Litchfield Park, and a host of hospitals, freestanding emergency centers, urgent care, primary care and specialty physician practices across the Valley.
