A six-year-old from Queen Creek is one of five winners in OdySea Aquarium’s third annual Conservation Art Challenge.
Sam Guerrero used packing materials, paint and foam pool noodles to create an art piece representing a manta ray.
The Conservation Art Challenge asks children aged 12 and under to create a work of art in the form of an animal, preferably an endangered species, from recycled materials to celebrate World Endangered Species Day and World Oceans Day, which occur in May and June respectively, according to a press release.
This year, OdySea received 587 entries from children all over the Valley. As a winner, Guerrero was awarded a painting created by an OdySea Aquarium cownose stingray that uses a special apparatus that allows it to paint on canvas. Guerrero also met with Sedona a female African penguin at the aquarium.
OdySea Aquarium is located at 9500 E. Via de Ventura, Suite A-100, in Scottsdale.
