Queen Creek chamber announces award winners

The Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce honored the people and businesses that make the town hum.

The chamber hosted its 14th annual Business Awards Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Encanterra Country Club.

“Congratulations to all winners and nominees,” stated Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. “This is never an easy process. All the nominees are doing such amazing work in the community. It’s the wonderful people in our community that make this a great place to live.”

The winners are:

  • Volunteer of the Year: Donna Johnson volunteers with the town of Queen Creek Community Emergency Response Team.
  • Educator of the Year: Christopher Hepworth teaches visual arts at Queen Creek High School.
  • Emerging Business of the Year: Sidewalk Coffee and Bagel Co. offers made-from-scratch bagels and specialty coffee and is owned by Azadeh Purvis. It is located at 20784 E. Victoria Lane, Suite 106.
  • Business of the Year: WoodBarn BBQ started as a food truck in the Valley before calling Queen Creek home. It is owned by the father-and-son duo of Mark and Skylar Hittle. The restaurant serves brisket, pork, sausage and turkey. It is located at 23670 S. Power Road, Suite 101.

The nominees in each category were:

  • Volunteer of the Year: Gibson Porter and Robert Valera
  • Educator of the Year: Lara Cox and Joshua Mattis
  • Emerging Business of the Year: Bloomin’ Blinds of Chandler-Gilbert and Modern Splendor Homes
  • Business of the Year: Old Ellsworth Brewing Company and San Tan Memorial Gardens at Schnepf Farms.
