Peoria council approves StorAmerica facility expansion
Posted
INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
Peoria City Council approved a plan for the expansion of an existing RV and self storage facility near Northern and 85th avenues.
The current 12.2-acre StorAmerica storage facility site is expected to gain the adjacent vacant 5-acre site.
The council approved a minor general plan amendment together with a major PAD amendment to allow for the expansion, Aug. 23.
More specifically, the vacant site is bounded on the west by the existing “L”-shaped StorAmerica self-storage facility, and extends from Northern Avenue northward to an existing Salt River Power power line corridor that runs east to west.
Further to the west of the existing StorAmerica facility is the Brighton charter school. Directly north of the subject expansion site, under the power line corridor, is land that is being actively farmed. The area located immediately south of the site is owned by the city of Peoria, operated as a regional retention basin. Further east, across 85th Avenue, is a large-lot single-family residential area located within unincorporated Maricopa County.
Officials said the application for this project was properly noticed and the applicant, John Hartman of StorAmerica, conducted a neighborhood meeting, Aug. 4, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Peoria Community Center. No members of the public were present, according to a staff report.
