Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Surprise police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his wife.
The incident happened around 3:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24 at a home near 133rd Avenue and Caribbean Lane.
Police said they received a 911 call from a female victim who stated that she had been shot and needed help. According to court documents, she did not know who shot her as she was asleep.
Officers arrived at the residence and found a man in the driveway. Police later identified him as Elbert Kingsley Hollingsworth, 60. He was detained for investigation.
Inside the residence, officers located his wife, Lisa Hollingsworth, 55, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment but later died from her injuries.
According to court documents, Ms. Hollingsworth's husband showed no remorse when told that his alleged actions killed his wife. He declined to say whether he shot his wife and requested a lawyer before answering any other questions.
Police recovered a firearm, spent shell cases and a gun box from the home, records state.
Elbert Hollingsworth was booked into jail in lieu of $2 million cash-only bond on one count of first-degree murder, according to court documents. His next court dates are Aug. 31 and Sept. 2.
