More than 480 Lowe’s executive leaders, associates and vendor partners will build 500 quality bunk beds for families in need Monday, Oct. 23. The bunk bed build is taking place 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on the Sunset lawn of the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, 7575 E. Princess Drive.

The event is part of the annual Swing for Charity event, a fundraiser to benefit the Lowe’s Foundation. At the end of the build, Swing for Charity events across the country will have built more than 1,200 bunk beds to be distributed by local chapters of Lowe’s national partner, Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

In addition to building bunk beds for families, the fundraiser supports the Lowe’s Foundation’s Gable Grants, which is providing $50 million over the next five years to prepare 50,000 people for skilled trades careers. These grants support community and technical colleges, community-based nonprofit organizations and national nonprofit partners with a strong local presence. The goal of the Gable Grants program is to build a sustainable infrastructure of innovative training programs to cultivate more job-ready tradespeople and address the skilled trades labor shortage throughout the United States.

Building alongside the Lowe’s team will be an instructor and three students from Coconino Community College, one of the first-ever Lowe’s Foundation’s Gable Grants recipients. Located in Flagstaff, Coconino will be using its $750,000 Gable Grant to remodel its workshop, upgrade equipment and hire additional instructors to expand its skilled trades training programs.
