Credit union serving Queen Creek launches teacher supply drive
Posted
Throughout this month, Queen Creek residents can donate teaching supplies to the local OneAZ credit union branch, allowing them a chance to win one of three kids-sized mini-Ford Broncos.
The Gilbert - Queen Creek OneAZ branch is located at 3349 E. Queen Creek Road in Gilbert, about four miles west of Mansel Carter Oasis Park.
“Teachers are the foundation of Arizona's educational system,” stated Kim Reedy, OneAZ president and CEO, in a press release. “We’re asking all Arizonans to come together to support teachers by bringing in items like pencils, notebooks, binders and even classroom decorations.”
According to AdoptAClassroom.org, teachers spend an average of $750 of their own money on school supplies. Many teachers spend even more, with 30% spending $1,000 out of their own pocket each school year on supplies for their own classrooms.
Here is a list of some of the classroom supplies Arizona teachers need most:
Composition books
Correction fluid
White board erasers
Glue sticks
Highlighters
Index cards
White board cleaner spray
Loose filler paper, wide-ruled
Crayola markers, thick and thin tip
Sharpies
2 pencils
1-subject spiral notebooks
Classroom decorations
Expo Markers
Crayons
Binder pencil pouches
Binders with round-rings
A contest entry form for the kids’ mini-Ford Bronco will be made available once a donation is made. The donation drive and mini-Ford Bronco giveaway will run through July 31. Winners for each of the three mini-Ford Broncos will be announced on or after Aug. 15.
According to the release, donations from this teacher supply drive will be distributed to charitable organizations dedicated to teacher and student needs throughout Arizona. OneAZ will select nonprofit organizations in each of the credit union’s service regions to receive the donated items.
Donations can be made at any one of the 20 OneAZ branches throughout Arizona. OneAZ branches are open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday and Friday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
