No officers are hurt and a person is in the hospital after a shooting involving FBI task force members in El Mirage.

The FBI Phoenix Field Office said the Violent Crimes Task Force was conducting a felony arrest warrant during a law enforcement operation around 11 p.m. Wednesday near Grand Avenue and Thompson Ranch Road.

Three individuals were in the suspect vehicle, the FBI said. One person in the vehicle was injured and treated on scene and is in custody. A second person in the vehicle was transported to the hospital. A third individual in the vehicle was not injured and is being questioned.

The FBI released a statement on the incident Thursday evening, identifying the subject of the original warrant as Ernesto Emmanuel Izaguirre, 32. He was the suspect injured in the shooting but treated at the scene.

Mr. Izaguirre is in custody at the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of aggravated assault, shoplifting, dangerous drug violation and prohibited possession of a weapon.

According to court documents, Mr. Izaguirre had been involved in a May 10 incident in which he came to a residence in Wittmann and allegedly pointed a weapon at his ex-wife's father, threatening to kill him. The reason: for the grandfather calling law enforcement the day prior to report Mr. Izaguirre firing his weapon in the front yard.

Mr. Izaguirre's ex-wife feared he would take their children and leave, having taken off an electronic monitoring device he was wearing for a current case out of Wickenburg.

A probable cause statement mentions the arrest of Mr. Izaguirre, but does not document any details on the FBI shooting, which remains under investigation.

Grand Avenue was closed in both directions until around 8:20 a.m. Thursday.

A team of agents from the FBI's Inspection Division has deployed to Phoenix in furtherance of the FBI’s investigation into the June 19th shooting that took place during a FBI Violent Crimes Task Force led operation in El Mirage, Arizona. This is standard practice for a shooting incident involving an FBI agent.

The FBI’s shooting incident review team will continue to conduct relevant interviews and gather information regarding the shooting incident for presentation to a Shooting Incident Review Group, which consists of members from the FBI and the Department of Justice. This review process is thorough, objective, and conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances.

The subject of the original arrest warrant, Ernesto Izaguirre, 32, is currently in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

In order to preserve the integrity of the review, we will be unable to provide additional comments regarding investigative details.
