Miller: A father urging Scottsdale to close its dine-in restaurant options

Posted

Dear Solange,

Thank you once again for taking the time to speak with me today. It is wonderful to know that local government is listening to our concerns.

As per our conversation today, I just wanted to reiterate the urgency and necessity of the closure of dine-in restaurants in our city. As this global coronavirus contagion spreads across our planet, it is incumbent upon all of its citizens to fight together to stop it.

This must be a united front. As the spread has now reached our community, it’s our time to act.

As a husband and father of a 16-month-old baby girl, I have made the decision to abstain from my workplace. My wife and I both work as bartenders together in a very prominent and very busy restaurant in Scottsdale.

This will undoubtedly put a severe strain on our finances, but this decision is not about money.

Since the closure of dine-in restaurants in neighboring communities has taken effect, it feels as though the entire Valley has descended upon Scottsdale’s dining establishments.

I have witnessed firsthand the overcrowding of bars and restaurants --- far beyond CDC guidelines and what our president himself has recommended.

If action is not taken by Mayor Lane, or Gov. Ducey, these restaurants, I fear, will continue to put profits over the safety and well being of both its employees and patrons alike, and further contribute to the rapid spread of this dangerous disease.

We have elected these officials to put the safety of their constituents before any and all other concerns. This is their primary responsibility, and it is currently being neglected.

The sooner we as a community commit to stopping the spread, the sooner we can all move on, recover, and heal. We can do this. But, it will demand the social responsibility of an entire city, county, state, country, and world.
