Franciscan Renewal Center’s Mental Health Summit: Understanding Today’s Challenges is designed for anyone who would like to learn what mental health is, what it isn’t and how best to understand it. Mental health care professionals and students can earn six continuing education units at this summit July 26–28.

Never before has understanding the mental health of ourselves and those around us been more top of mind. Spend the weekend on 25 acres of serene desert beauty at 5802 E. Lincoln Drive while hearing expert licensed professionals speak on timely and informative topics.

One of those experts is FRC Director of Therapy, Support, and Counseling Ministry Ryan M. Sheade, a licensed clinical social worker who has been involved with the Maricopa County public behavioral health system since 1998.

He has overseen residential and in-home programs for adults with serious mental illness, been a case manager for the same population, acted as a clinical coordinator for the Regional Behavioral Health Authorities, been clinical director for the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, and founded a private psychotherapy practice that includes 14 therapists. Sheade also spent five years as faculty in the Arizona State University Graduate School of Social Work. He currently acts as a subject matter expert in curriculum development and teaches adjunct for Grand Canyon University. Sheade co-founded the Arizona Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy Training in 2017 and serves as its director of training.

Since the 1970s, FRC has provided support groups along with six sessions of therapy to anyone in need for a donation. The groups and sessions are provided by local licensed therapists who volunteer their gifts.

For 50 years, FRC has been committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of the community. Whether you stay overnight in one of the guest rooms or return each day, this is a time to feed your mind, body and spirit.

This program is approved by National Association of Social Workers Arizona to provide six CEUs to all Arizona mental health professionals. To register with CEUs, call the guest services desk at 480-948-7460.

To register and find information on all FRC programs, visit thecasa.org/programs and click on the Programs Portal button or call 480-948-7460. The fees, including meals, are $100 for a commuter and $195 for a single room.
