Horizon’s Meyer meets best friend through tennis

Posted

Name: Anna Meyer

School, spring sport and position/event: Horizon High School, Tennis, No. 1 singles and doubles, Varsity captain.

Awards or recognitions you’ve received while playing in high school Most Improved (2017), All PVUSD doubles district team (2019), Varsity Letter (2017-2020).

How long have you been playing your sport? I have been playing tennis for the past five years, and have played at Horizon for the past four years.

Why did you choose to play your sport? I chose to play tennis because I have always loved team sports. Going into high school, I wanted to play a sport that involved a team atmosphere, so I chose to play tennis.

What is your favorite personal sports memory from your playing career? My personal favorite tennis memory from all four years is meeting my best friend Liza Isayev my freshman year on the team. With lots of hard work we played in the doubles state tournament together last year.

Who has impacted you the most along your sports journey? Why? All of my high school coaches have impacted me throughout my tennis journey. However, my private coach, Jon Perran, has definitely impacted me the most. He has pushed me to become the best tennis player I could be, and hopefully one day I will be as good as he is.

What are you going to miss most about high school sports? I will miss my team the most. The girls in the Horizon tennis program are some of the most friendly and caring girls I have ever met.

What comes next for you after high school? In the fall I will be attending the University of Arizona to study nursing. Although I will not be continuing tennis in college, I am grateful for all this sport has taught me.

What advice would you give to the underclassmen? Make the most of every moment in high school. Specifically to tennis, always leave everything you have out on the court, and always cheer your teammates on. Time will fly by during season, but my favorite part of high school will always be tennis.
