SUV hits, kills pedestrian in south Phoenix

A 55-year-old man died at a hospital this week after being struck by an SUV near 1st Street and Broadway Road, Phoenix police said Thursday.

The collision occurred about 8 p.m. March 26, and police responded to find Anthony Olivas, 55, suffering from serious injuries. He died at a hospital.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.

Detectives investigated, and their initial report is that Olivas was attempting to cross Broadway Road. He was not in a crosswalk when the SUV, which was traveling west, hit him.
