A 27-year-old Laveen man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for abusive sexual contact of a minor.

U.S. District Judge Susan M. Brnovich sentenced Fred Damien Acunia, a member of the Gila River Indian Community, to the prison term followed by lifetime supervised release.

For a year, beginning in November 2020, Acunia engaged in sexual contact with the victim, who was under the age of 12 years old at the time of the offense, according to a release from the Arizona district of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The FBI and Gila River Police Department conducted the investigation.
