Pop-Up Peoria collaboration coming to Park West

The city of Peoria and Park West are teaming up for a creative concept to bring the community together.

Peoria City Council approved a proposal for Pop-Up Peoria, a public-private storefront collaboration with Park West. The council agreed to one-time money for $30,000 to fund the project.

“Park West offers a fantastic dining, entertainment and retail experience and we are thrilled to join forces to bring Pop-Up Peoria to our community,” Mayor Cathy Carlat said in a news release. “By partnering with the Park West team, local business owners, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem at ASU, we are curating stronger community partnerships, while offering interesting programming in a unique and fun environment for the benefit of Peoria residents.”

Pop-Up Peoria is a public-private collaboration between the city of Peoria and Park West that allows for retail space in the shopping mall to be used for community programs and activities. The city, along with Arizona State University’s J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute and The Grande Shoppe, will program and fill the retail space.

The Grande Shoppe, a retail store that hosts a collection of Peoria artisans and entrepreneurs in Old Town Peoria, will staff, manage, and operate Pop-Up Peoria, including the retail space in the front half of the store. The city and ASU will schedule onsite programming such as sustainability classes, library storytimes, code compliance workshops, and neighborhood watch meetings as well as create a makerspace in the back half of the store.

Additionally, The Grande Shoppe will give back to the community by donating to St. Mary’s Food Bank and needy families in Peoria and by mentoring young artists and providing them with business and retail training.

Pop-Up Peoria is expected to open in early 2021.

The hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. As more information becomes the website, www.peoriaaz.gov, will be updated.
