Surprise Festival Days will debut Thursday through Sunday, April 2-5, and city officials hope to bring additional festivals to Surprise in the future.
The multi-day festival is being hosted in a new downtown location, just north of City Hall at 16500 N. Civic Center Dr., Surprise, offering a 12-acre open event space with enough room for the event to grow.
The festival is a collaboration between Community Festival Foundation, Rock the Fork Entertainment, and city of Surprise, and will be part of a multi-stage community outreach plan to create more life-enriching arts and entertainment events in Downtown Surprise.
The city has experienced an exponential population growth over the last few years, with more than 200,000 population within 5 miles of Downtown Surprise, and was named as one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
“With a lack of major festivals in the West Valley, combined with the incredible population growth in and around the city of Surprise, we believe there is a unique opportunity to develop Downtown Surprise as the West Valley’s destination for major events and entertainment programming throughout the year,” Rock the Fork event director Vanessa Avelar stated in a news release.
As part of the multi-stage plan, Rock the Fork Entertainment will develop and produce the new event schedule with the Community Festival Foundation overseeing all community impact goals and raising funds and awareness for local organizations that benefit the community, both kicking things off with their bi-annual spring and fall Festival Days 2020 schedule, with more events being planned for 2021, such as music festivals, culinary events and concerts in the park.
“Our goal is to create a regular schedule of events and activities for the west valley to experience year-round, outside of spring training season,” Ms. Avelar stated. “That even means developing a summer schedule, shifting to nighttime programming to keep things cool, so there is always something to do for the west valley community. And Downtown Surprise will be the epicenter of all of it.”
The Spring Surprise Festival Days will include two stages showcasing attractions, a mix of up-and-coming and legendary artists, and several family-focused activities. Attractions and music lineups will be announced at a later date.
