Richard Gehlbach was born in Phoenix. He joined the United States Navy at age 18, in the 1970s, and spent a good portion of the next five years overseas.

After his service was completed, he worked in law enforcement for the next 31 years, retiring in 2010. It was then that he began traveling extensively both within the United States and to other countries. He often revisited locations where he served in the military but was unable to enjoy the experience back then due to his work. It was this travel that directly led to his interest in photography.

Mr. Gehlbach moved to Sun City in 2018 and said it was the best move he ever made.  He joined the Camera Guild of Sun City that same year. 

“I was amazed at the subjects being taught during the many classes offered by the club,” Mr. Gehlbach said. “The club is comprised of members who use cell phones, intermediate, or expensive cameras for their photography. I was astonished at what artistic work you could accomplish with just a cell phone. I have a website at richard-gehlbach.pixels.com. Some of the photos there are from a cell phone as well.  However, my main camera is currently a Nikon D810.” 

Between the classes, photographic trips, potlucks and competitions, Mr. Gehlbach says person can stay busy or just dabble in photography. “There is no need to buy software, the club has it all.” 

Mr. Gehlbach is looking forward to the club moving into the new building, which will have more room for activities.
