Vogel: People do not want to catch COVID-19

Posted

In the letter from Brian Reilly (“Face masks may not be helpful,” Sun City West Independent, June 24, 2020), he ends with the statement “use your freedom to decide,” meaning whether to wear a mask or not, despite the executive order by our governor for people to wear a mask in public places.

As a former respiratory therapist with 25 years in the health care field, I would like to convey to Mr Reilly, with the strongest concern, you do not want to catch this flu virus! This flu virus is not only contagious but also deadly. That is a very bad combination to have in a flu virus.

With the national death toll approaching 120,000, that is an absolutely staggering number. So please wear a mask. Wear something, anything that will help impede any airborne flu virus.

Freedom should not be used to put other people into danger. Thank you.

Editor’s Note: Gov. Doug Ducey did not issue an executive order mandating masks be worn statewide. He left the decision up to the cities and counties, most of which put mandatory mask orders into effect.
