As with most things in the last 10 months, the annual Relay For Life cancer fundraiser and awareness campaign will see some changes.

The event will be conducted this year, but instead of a day-long run/walk with accompanying events, donations will be accepted in a drive-through fashion. There will also be luminaria sales, according to Yvonne Dorsey, event volunteer.

“Things will be a lot different this year because of COVID,” she said.

The Relay For Life is scheduled 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Sun City West Foundation building, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.

In addition to the drive-through donations, gift bags will be given and classic cars will be on display in the Foundation parking lot. Ms. Dorsey said luminarias will be available for sale to display at the event.

“People can write message of encouragement on them, or something to commemorate someone they have lost to cancer or is suffering through it,” Ms. Dorsey said.

To purchase a luminaria, contact Marilyn Shaw at 541-980-4444 or email shaw.marilynn@gmail.com.

Those attending the event in person are also asked to provide a donation of nonperishable food that will be given to the Valley View Community Food Bank, 10771 W. Peoria Ave., Sun City.

The Relay For Life of the Sun Cities is an arm of the American Cancer Society. Other sponsors of the Sun Cities event include Peoria Nissan, Home Instead Senior Care and Sun Canyon Bank. Event partners are the Sun City West Foundation, Recreation Centers of Sun City West and Sardella’s Pizza & Wings.
