Imagine a Sun City West community encompassing more than 13,000 acres with a population of more than 75,000 and featuring a major shopping mall.
These were just some of the original plans for the community during the early stages of its creation by the Del E. Webb Development Co.
The Del E. Webb Sun Cities Museum, 10801 W. Oakmont Drive, Sun City, will host a free lecture 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 to discuss these and other plans that included a resort hotel, dinner/theater club, cemetery, timeshares and more that once were to be part of Sun City West’s development. Ed Allen, who wrote the history of Sun City West, will talk on “Plans, Schemes and Faded Dreams – The Sun City West That Might Have Been.”
The meeting will be conducted in the lecture hall at the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.
Mr. Allen will share photos and little known stories from the past, along with what caused many of the original plans to become faded dreams.
The meeting is sponsored in cooperation with the Recreation Centers of Sun City West. Admission is free and open to the public.

The museum is open 1-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as 1-4 p.m. Sunday through February.
