REILLY: Was it artist stealing rocks from yard?

Posted

Your recent newspaper article (“Painted rocks inspire kindness in Sun City West,” Sun City West Independent, May 6, 2020), which was delivered to our home May 5, 2020, was very surprising.
A local “artist” is apparently “asking if anyone had [river] rocks available” to turn them into “kindness rocks” and the artist said, “my husband and I search for the perfect rocks…” The night before the paper was delivered to our home, at about 6:50 p.m., my wife looked out at our backyard to see an older woman with short hair trespassing on our golf course property.  The woman was bending over and picking up river rocks from our flower bed.
We told the woman that she was trespassing on our property and she replied that she was looking for “river rocks.” We told the woman that she was taking our river rocks and that she should “drop them.” The woman complied, dropping all of the river rocks and we asked her to leave. Words were exchanged and she gave us a one-finger salute as she walked across golf course property to her white golf car, which was parked on the street (Tom Ryan) next to the sidewalk.
The picture of the “artist” in your paper is not very clear to determine if our trespasser and the “artist” are one and the same. However, in 26 years of being associated with Sun City West, this is the first time we’ve ever caught someone taking our river rock and then reading an article the next day about river rock “kindness” in the local paper. What are our thoughts about this experience?

Respect private property, don’t trespass, and try not to have “sticky fingers” when it comes to river rocks. Kindness starts with respect for the property of others.
