I am enthusiastic about the electric vehicle program that was presented to the RCSCW governing board Dec. 4.
It seems to me that people currently using golf cars would benefit from this program. The proposed electric DASH vehicles have seat belts, are crash-tested for safety, have climate control and go up to 50 mph. The entire program is a six-month pilot program with three parts — a shuttle between R.H. Johnson Library and Walgreens; the small DASH vehicles you can drive anywhere in the area except the freeway: and a solar-powered parking structure located just south of the Library.
The project would be built by CBC Transportation at no cost to Sun City West. The board still has many questions concerning funding after the pilot project is concluded.
I believe the DASH vehicles have much potential here, since they could be taken home. The presenter, Mr. Chris Barker of CBC Transportation, said the vehicles could be charged at home as well as at the proposed parking structure.
