Potts: RCSCW over reached after Ducey order

Posted

Here we go again, authoritarian, knee jerk, overreaction to allegedly protect us “old people” from our irresponsible selves.

Gov. Doug Duce ordered the closing of a number of venues to include “water parks,” and our manager (with, I assume, the concurrence of our governing board) interprets that to justify closing our indoor pools again. So I have to ask, based on what evidence? Has anyone ever been infected with the coronavirus by swimming in a semi-private indoor pool? Is it even possible? I have not heard nor read any such report.

If you look at our Palm Ridge pool since reopening, it has not been overly used. I have not witnessed any swimmers violating any of the COVID-19 rules of behavior. Even when two swimmers pass by each other in adjacent lanes there is no violation/contact.

A water park is a playground for children, young adults and, I suppose, some of us older people, too. But lots and lots of people in very close contact doing many things other than actual swimming. Not at Palm Ridge, maybe five or six people at one time, in separate lanes swimming and often even less than that.

So I say, please rethink this possible 30-day indoor poll closure. If there is no evidence then there is less than minimal possibility of being infected, and let us “old people” decided if we want to go swimming or not.
