Charlotte Louise McFall Mallon, a member of the Sun City Agua Fria Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, was awarded two certificates from the National Society.

One certificate was for honoring her as a 1st Lieutenant RN Flight Nurse, Army Nurse Corps, in recognition of valor, service and sacrifice during World War II. The second one was a Certificate of Award for Women in American History and a medal for her service to America.

She was nominated and approved for this honor by the Sun City Agua Fria DAR Chapter. She became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution when she was accepted for NSDAR membership June 8, 1973 and joined the Matochshoning Chapter in New Jersey. She is a direct descendant of her Revolutionary War patriot John McFall. She moved to Arizona in 1987 and became a member of the Agua Fria Chapter.

After graduating from nursing school, while employed at a hospital and upon hearing about the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ms. Mallon resigned Dec. 7, 1941 from her job to enlist into the Army Nurse Corps. She was sworn in Feb. 2, 1942 and entered the Flight Nurse program. She was then sent to the Army and Navy Command Staff School in Orlando to teach air evacuation to flight surgeons. In September 1944, she was assigned to evacuate tent hospitals in Saipan and Guam, then to the Philippines and Okinawa. She was honored with the Presidential Unit Citation, Air Medal, 5 campaign ribbons, four combat stars and the Philippines WWII Commemorative Medal. After the war ended, she married and had five sons.

Her military service was featured along with many other WWII nurses in the book “No Time For Fear: Voices of American Military Nurses of World War II” by Diane Burke Fessler.
