Lee: Reader hopes new plants in Sun City West won’t be ugly

Posted

I recently noticed yellow tape around some of the plants in the median on R.H. Johnson Boulevard.

Now I read the plants are being taken out and replaced. I hope the new plants won’t be anything like the ugly, gnarly, scruffy looking trees that replaced those beautiful bright green orange trees. Those colorful trees were a symbol of Sun City West.

The walls were built to house those little lollipop trees; a delight to see on our main streets. Every time I drove down R.H. Johnson Boulevard they made me smile — the brilliant green color, shaped like a lollipop. Now what do we have that replaced them? Ugly brown scrawly trees that look like something out of “fright night.”

It saddens me that the Sun City West residents were not asked to vote about this decision. This was once a beautiful resort community for seniors; that’s why we live here and pay rec center dues.

Please, lets not spoil the beauty any further. Let us at least have a vote.
