KOSMOSKI: Changed mind about golf courses

Posted

Why are the golf courses closed?
I think it’s because so many golfers chose to ignore the social distancing practices and continued to congregate in groups. You gave the many kill joys in Sun City West, so much ammunition that they began to complain about your blatant deviance from acceptable, safe golfing.
At first I thought keeping the golf courses open was a good idea until I saw about 10 golf carts in a circle on Pebblebrook April 13 with more than a dozen golfers clustered between the carts talking. Probably the golfers had just heard that the courses were closing the next day and decided to stage a little up yours group right across from the clubhouse. The golf monitor had to go over and break up the group.

One thing I have learned about the baby boom generation in Sun City West is they don’t like rules. If they don’t like them, they just won’t follow them (I am also a baby boomer). It is a shame the golf courses had to close, but it looks like you did it to yourselves.
I think if rec centers officials cave in to golfers’ petition to open the golf courses, they should do the same for tennis, pickleball, bocce and other outdoor activities.
