Covid can’t stop artists’ creativity

All over Sun City, while residents have been quarantined in their homes, members of the Artists by the Lake Club have continued to create beautiful art.

Some members took online classes to learn new techniques and some brought out materials they haven’t used in a while. Many members continued to communicate through texts and zoom critiques to check in on each other.

Deb Dahlin, president of Artists by the Lake, decided to create a wall mural for her patio. This was an idea she got about a year ago and was able to get a six- by four-foot canvas to paint on. It took about two weeks of painting four hours daily to accomplish this large work, but now that it’s finished, “Springtime comes to the Desert” has become an addition to her patio.

Rose Mary Meyer also had a big plan. She began a large birch oil painting before the quarantine and was able to complete it. Her painting, entitled “Covid-Standing Strong Birch,” is six feet by two feet in size.

Georgia Feiste, vice president of Artist by the Lake, completed a dog portrait for her friend. “Dani” is a 12x16 oil. And “Woman in Black” is also a 12x16 oil.

Another artist who created art during shutdown is Janice Rouen-Lydon. Her portrait of her deceased friend was a gift to the family. Charlene Stark also created art as well as sending uplifting texts daily.
