BAGNATO: Stand firm on original position

Posted

It is most unfortunate that letter writer Joyce Krahenbuhl (“Grateful that RCSCW facilities closed,’ Sun City West Independent, April 29, 2020) had to resort to a not-so-thinly-disguised personal insult in her letter.

She wrote, “What part of the phrase ‘world pandemic’ do you not understand?” Sadly, we live in a world where people feel that only their opinions matter — and they can’t possibly be wrong, can they? They have no other alternative argument except to denigrate another individual.

Ms. Krahenbuhl knows nothing about me nor has she ever met me. She does not bring anything positive or constructive to the table by being so condescending.

I stand firmly by what I originally wrote, that the closures of our outdoor activities were knee-jerk reactions by an inexperienced management team just following what other cities and states were doing without regard to what is truly best for our residents and our community.

Golf, without question, ranks right up there with scuba diving and deer hunting as examples of social distancing sporting activities. Still, Sun City West General Manager Bill Schwind continues to justify his ridiculously misguided shutdown by offering up another self-congratulatory press release, this last one dated April 13. In it, he includes the following quote, attributed to Deputy Fire Chief Eric Kriwer, “Early interventions by the rec centers have saved lives in the community of Sun City West.”

It should be noted that this is solely the opinion of Mr. Kriwer and cannot be proven as fact. There is simply no way to back that claim up with actual data, just as there is no way to back up claims that the now tired and grossly overused phrase social distancing has “saved” any lives. It’s completely absurd to think otherwise.
