Local author Dr. Jeanne Blanchet has released her latest work of historical fiction, “The Iceman.”

The 300-page thriller is based on the life of Ötzi, a 5,000-year-old mummy found in 1991 in the Austrian-Italian Alps. This is Dr. Blanchet’s sixth full-length novel.

In 1991, two hikers in the Austrian-Italian Alps discovered a 5,300 year-old-mummy partially embedded in a glacier. Subsequently dubbed “Ötzi,” he has proved one of the most significant archeological finds of all time.

Dr. Blanchet draws on established facts about Ötzi’s life and times to weave a suspenseful tale of intrigue and murder. At Ötzi’s birth, a shaman foretold that he would do amazing things and impart priceless knowledge to future generations. But to reach that goal, he was forced to endure a life of hardship.

After surviving an avalanche, a bear attack, captivity and other trials, he was relentlessly stalked by enemies intent on taking down the one man capable of revealing an earth-shattering secret that would revolutionize society.

A book signing will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the El Dorado of Sun City pool area, 10330 W. Thunderbird Blvd. Book signings will also be at Barnes and Noble and libraries around the Valley in the near future.
