Carlson: Nasty election actions not appreciated in Sun City

Posted

The Sun City Independent in their last issue had a story (“Nasty politics come to Sun Cities,” Sun City Independent, Oct. 14, 2020) that talked about what’s going on in the community related to the election campaign.

Well, the first letter to the editor I see is one bashing the state of California. I am not from California and I am offended at this letter. This is a retirement community where the majority of the people who live here are not from Arizona. This type of stereotyping is not acceptable to me.

First of all, I was shocked when we first moved to Sun City that people thought it was appropriate to fly the Confederate flag here. Last time I looked at a map we were the United States of America. I am also upset that both sides of the political aisles have decided to steal political signs. Worse, the KKK graffitti is totally unacceptable to me.

I feel sorry for the people who work in the rec centers who have to deal with people removing their mask or lowering them in the gyms. The lack of respect given to the workers is unacceptable. This isn’t a political statement. This is done for the safety of the people in our community who are more like to catch the disease.

So how about the “City of Volunteers” becomes the “City of Civility/”
