A Phoenix-based nonprofit that works to provide free primary medical care and medications to those in need, will host an April event designed to get people into wellness.

Mission of Mercy Arizona will hold its Spring Into Wellness Virtual Challenge during April. The event features a mix of health and wellness tips and activities as an opportunity for participants to take charge of their own health and tackle weekly challenges based on individual goals.

Challenges will include fitness, nutrition, mindfulness and healthy-planning activities, and will be communicated to participants via weekly emails.

”Now, more than ever, the importance of being healthy – and staying healthy – is a concept we can all appreciate,” said Paula Carvalho, executive director of Mission of Mercy Arizona, in a press release. “Whether it's taking precautions while navigating the coronavirus or learning how to balance a healthy lifestyle with the pressures of daily life, our hope is to empower participants on their wellness journeys. We can all take steps to improve our overall mental and physical health.”

Cost to participate is $25. Donations are encouraged to raise funds for Mission of Mercy Arizona.

Participants are asked to form wellness teams, and get friends, family and co-workers involved. All proceeds raised via the challenge will be used to fund clinic operations for Mission of Mercy, including primary healthcare, diabetes education, and chronic disease management and prevention.

In fiscal 2020, Mission of Mercy Arizona provided approximately 14,000 free patient visits facilitated by approximately 200 active volunteers. There are six mobile clinics located in the communities of Phoenix, Mesa, Avondale, Maryvale and Chandler.
