Maricopa County Sheriff's employee tests positive for COVID-19

Posted

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has been notified that one of its employees who works out of the Headquarters Building, 550 W. Jackson St., Phoenix, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

MCSO is currently working with employees who have been identified as potential close contacts and may have been exposed to the coronavirus.

The Headquarters Building will be deep cleaned and sanitized to ensure the safety of employees during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a release. Full access will resume Monday, March 30.

Along with its downtown buildings, MCSO has seven district substations, several jails and a lake patrol district.

Maricopa County is one of 15 counties within Arizona and has a land mass of over 9,200 square miles. That makes Maricopa County larger than seven U.S. states including Rhode Island, Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Maricopa County is the fastest growing county in the nation, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau figures.
