Man killed in officer-involved shooting in El Mirage

A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in El Mirage, according to police.

No officers were injured.

The El Mirage Police Department said officers responded to a report of a suicidal subject Tuesday afternoon in the area of El Frio and Rosewood Drive, northeast of the intersection of El Mirage and Cactus roads.

Shortly after officers encountered the adult male, he displayed two knives, police said. After officers tried to deploy a Taser, police said the man then thew one of the knives at officers.

"Officers continued to give commands. They pled with this individual to drop that knife and he began to move forward in an aggresive manner at which time one of our officers would fire multiple rounds and strike that individual," police said.

Police said the man died from his injuries. He was identified as Joshua Bacco, 31, of El Mirage

The investigation remains ongoing.

The incident is the 16th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County in 2020.
