Knecht: Voters deserve civil dialogue, integrity

Posted

You deserve representatives who run on their merit. You are entitled to a system that promotes civil dialogue focused on solving common problems and that models the kind of integrity and kindness you teach your children and grandchildren and that you want in your elected officials.

I have committed to no negative messaging from my campaign since the beginning, and I have remained true to my word. I don’t try to build myself up by putting others down. I don’t take snippets out of context and fabricate false narratives. Changing the tone of politics in Arizona has to start somewhere. I will not approve any attack ads. After all, I fully intend to be seat-mates with one of my opponents.

In contrast, it is disappointing that my opponent used his column in this paper to be a mere compilation of every nasty hit piece hurled against me, attacking my reputation and my values relentlessly. You deserve better.

I am running because our district needs a skilled leader who will work for everyone in our community. I am a proven champion of public education. I have dedicated my life to supporting educators, students and their families so that Arizona might finally have an education system that gives students the opportunities they deserve and makes Arizona attractive to families, teachers and other professionals — and can compete for business and industry.

I know that seniors and families are worried about the cost of health care. I’ll put their needs before insurance companies who could charge exorbitant prices to cover preexisting conditions.

I’m focused on economic development. I have a vision for a 21st century economy in the Northwest Valley anchored by high-paying, high-tech, medical and creative-sector companies, surrounded by small local businesses and unique retail and restaurants.

I will also work to change the rules of campaigning and campaign finance that current and previous legislators have crafted, which has led to the toxic and excessive system we’re living with today.

I’m honored this race has received so much incredible support and attention. I know that’s because the voters in District 21 are eager to change the status quo and elect a truly independent leader. My resume has given people confidence in my abilities and trust in my dedication to serving the West Valley. I’m proud of my work in public education, business development and community service.

I spend my time talking to voters in our district about the issues that I know matter to you, like supporting our first responders and veterans, making sure public schools are well funded, and protecting the livelihoods of families in the West Valley. I’m honored to have the chance to serve in the state Legislature and stand up for everyone in the West Valley, always with an eye toward empowering and uplifting the people who live here.

If you have questions about me, or my campaign to put people over politics, don’t hesitate to reach out. My resume, endorsements, recorded debate, and contact information is at electknecht.org.

Editor’s note: Kathy Knecht is a Democratic candidate for the Arizona House representing Legislative District 21. In the interest of fairness and in accordance with the Independent Newsmedia Inc. commitment to purposeful neutrality, the candidate was offered this opportunity to respond to allegations made by her opponent (“Don’t let them ‘California’ our Arizona,” Daily Independent, Oct. 22, 2020).

Knecht, LD21
