Injuries reported in head-on collision on Grand Avenue in El Mirage

Authorities are investigating after a driver was trapped inside a vehicle involved in a head-on collision in El Mirage.

The collision occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday near Grand Avenue and Greenway Road.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said preliminary information described this incident as a two-vehicle head-on collision. There was a report of one driver trapped in a vehicle.

DPS said injuries were reported, but authorities didn't know how severe.

Traffic was restricted in the area to get traffic turned around. The Arizona Department of Transportation tweeted the full reopening of the roads around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

On Wednesday, DPS spokesman Bart Grave said the collision was not fatal and did not come out as wrong-way incident. However, the cause is under investigation.

He further stated that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is taking over the investigation, but MCSO referred questions back to DPS.
