Posted
A couple is accused of using the stolen credit cards of a woman whose vehicle was stolen at knifepoint at a Phoenix gas station.
Rafael De Jesus, 51, and Charmaine Kaylynn De Jesus, 31, were arrested Monday afternoon near 59th Avenue and Colter Street.
Rafael De Jesus is accused of carjacking a woman at knifepoint Jan. 27 at the QuikTrip near 27th and Northern avenues. Court documents state a man had asked the woman for money and then forced her to drive him to an ATM. When she refused, the suspect took control of the vehicle, dragging the woman for a short distance. She sustained minor injuries.
The suspect fled with her vehicle and belongings.
The following day, the victim’s credit card was used at a store near 43rd and Glendale avenues. Surveillance video showed a female using the card for three transactions. The female and a man then left in a van similar to the victim’s vehicle.
On Jan. 31, authorities conducted surveillance on a vehicle matching that of the victim’s. However, they learned the victim’s license plate had been put on a different but similar van. The owner of the van confirmed their license plate was stolen. On Monday, Glendale police responded to a hit and run near 59th Avenue and Colter Street. They learned a silver minivan was involved but fled the scene. The victim in that collision followed the suspect vehicle and saw a male driver and female passenger exit and flee. Police contacted the suspects and booked them into jail.
Charmaine De Jesus was found with a handbag containing belongings of the victim in the gas station robbery.
She faces charges of shoplifting, taking the identity of another, fraud and theft.
Rafael De Jesus was jailed in lieu of a $75,000 bond with court dates Feb. 11 and 13. He faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, theft, and armed robbery.
