Arnot: Resident upset with inverted U.S. flag

Posted

On Jan. 19, 2021, on the eve of what we all hoped will be a peaceful transition of power to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, I walked in my neighborhood in Sun City West.

This community is age restricted, which indicates that many residents may be honored veterans of foreign conflicts, may be veterans of military service, may have experienced the loss of a loved one, may have endured personal or family illness, may be lonely during the long months of the pandemic.

That being said, I was appalled at what I saw first-hand in my neighborhood this afternoon, which demonstrates that even personal hardships aforementioned have had no impact on those who wish to continue extolling division and hate. I have never seen the American flag blatantly being flown upside-down as I saw today on a flagpole in a front yard on La Terraza. Tears came to my eyes as I walked past that home.

I was near to ringing the bell but stopped knowing full well that the intent of the homeowner was to embroil and to flagrantly demonstrate support for what happened at our nation’s capitol Jan. 6. I am sickened by what I saw today in Sun City West.

Shame on you! Perhaps your neighbors could right the wrong.
