The Surprise Fire-Medical Department responded to a drowning around 3 p.m. Tuesday at residence in the 15700 block of West Central Street, near Greenway and Reems roads.

Upon arrival, a 69-year-old man was found dead near the back yard pool.

Surprise Fire said the man's wife call 911 after returning home, and responding police officers pulled the man from the pool. Responding paramedics pronounced him dead. It is unknown how long he was in the pool.
