3-year-old boy killed in Glendale collision

Candlelight vigil is 8 p.m. Friday, May 22

A family is mourning after their 3-year-old boy was killed in a collision in Glendale.

Around 1 p.m. Thursday, Glendale police said a couple and their two young children were out on a bike ride near 70th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

Police said the couple’s 3-year-old son was being pulled in a child-bike trailer behind the father's bike. The family was riding north on the eastside of 70th Avenue, just north of Villa Theresa Drive, when a vehicle heading south ran over the bike trailer, police said. The vehicle also struck the mother, they said.

The vehicle never stopped and drove away from the area, police said.

Police said a nurse heard the collision, came outside and started CPR on the 3-year-old.

Responding officers also performed CPR before the boy was airlifted to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they located the suspect vehicle at a residential home a few blocks away from the collision scene.

Police identified and interviewed two suspects, though no arrests appear to have been made yet.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time,” Glendale police stated. “When changes are made in the case we will provide an update. At this time we do not require any assistance from the public, while we appreciate their support.”

The boy’s family is hosting a vigil at the scene of the collision at 8 p.m. Friday, May 22.
