The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating what is believed to have been a homicide, which took place Sept. 5, in Scottsdale, police officials say.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., Scottsdale police officers responded to a welfare check at a resident in the 6600 block of east Fourth Street.

Officers arrived to find an adult female, believed to be in her 70s, inside the residence. She was deceased, police say, having suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

Police officials say an adult male, also in his 70s, was in the residence as well. The male had suffered a non-life threatening injury consistence with a gunshot wound, police say.

The male was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The relationship between the two adults is not yet known, police say, noting there is no indication there are any outstanding suspects in this case.

Scottsdale police detectives are investigating the matter as a homicide, police say.

Identification of both parties is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be provided as it becomes available, police say.
