Scottsdale Musical Theater Company has new cabaret style revues in March

Posted

Scottsdale Musical Theater Company has announced that it will showcase Broadway’s most famous music and songs in a cabaret style format every Saturday night in March at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort.

Its first “Best of Broadway” revue will be an evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein with shows, according to a press release, noting that showtimes will be at 8 p.m.

“To be able to sit back and relax with a drink and enjoy music from Broadway’s greatest shows…There’s really nothing like this kind of musical theater cabaret styled revue in Phoenix, not to the extent that it exists in New York, San Francisco, Chicago or L.A,” said SMTC Executive Producer David Hock in a prepared statement.

“It follows a long-held tradition for stage performers that removes the confines of being in a large theater on stage as a character in costume to allow moments between singer-and-song and singer-and-audience that creates a more intimate connection to the music, and the audience, providing a uniquely wonderful and entertaining experience.”

The revue will feature the vocal talents of veteran Valley, and SMTC, performers Nicki Bond, Taylor Hogan, Matt Newhard, Estrella Paloma Parra, Josh Pike and Adrian Ward.

Musical direction and keyboards will be handled by Josh Hontz with percussion handled by Shawn Jordan, the release said.

For social distancing guidelines, seating will be spread out and each party will have their own table. Full bar service will also be available before, during and after each show. Shows are Saturdays on March 6, 13, 20 and 27 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, 7200 N. Scottsdale Road.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with the performance starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and reservations can be made online at scottsdalemusicaltheater.com.
