Scottsdale City Court offers virtual civil traffic hearings

Posted

Scottsdale City Court continues to expand its use of technology and increase accessibility amid the COVID-19 pandemic, officials say.

“We have a responsibility to keep people safe, while at the same time ensure the wheels of justice continue to work efficiently and effectively,” said Court Administrator Ken Kung in a prepared statement.

Using programs such as Microsoft Teams, Apple FaceTime, Skype and Zoom, Scottsdale City Court is offering the ability for people to participate in court hearings remotely.

The City Court recently improved its remote appearance process to include civil traffic hearings. A defendant along with state and court representatives can appear online to hear and resolve these cases, according to a press release.

The court offers other online services, including:

  • Looking up a case status;
  • Filing a motion/request to the court for a case;
  • Making an appointment to see a judge or clerk;
  • Making a payment or requesting a payment contract;
  • Attending a defensive driving class;
  • Requesting an online dispute resolution for criminal misdemeanors;
  • Requesting an online parking hearing;
  • Requesting to quash a warrant;
  • Requesting a certified copy of case records;
  • Searching for a court date; and
  • Requesting a protective order.
