Rotarians partner with AHH to make birthdays memorable

Forty-two volunteers representing the Rotary Club of Scottsdale and members of Scottsdale Preparatory High School’s Rotary Interact Club performed a community service project with Arizona Helping Hands.

The mission of Arizona Helping Hands is to provide essential needs for approximately more than 14,000 Arizona children in foster care through programs promoting safety, permanency and health, according to a press release, adding that Arizona Helping Hands’ warehouse in Northeast Phoenix has beds, cribs, clothing, backpacks and school supplies, toiletries, and toys from ongoing toy drives.

The Rotary Club of Scottsdale’s Foundation provided $3,000 to support this project and the volunteers made kids smile by making birthday bags for 40 foster care children as each volunteer received a foster child’s wish list so they could have a special birthday.

Volunteers selected the birthday toys and books for each child’s gift bag, the release said, noting that they gift wrapped the items and then decorated the bags for the individual children.

The group personalized and decorated birthday bags specifically for a child ages 1-12, selected perfect gifts along with  a new book. Volunteers wrapped the presents and finished by tying a bow at the top of the bag, the release detailed.

In 2019, Arizona Helping Hands made birthdays special for 3,596 children in foster care turning 1-21 throughout the state, noted the release.

Arizona Helping Hands’ Corporate Engagement Officer Sherie Siegel stated that Arizona Helping appreciates The Rotary Club of Scottsdale participating in a Birthday Dreams Team Building Experience and sponsoring 40 birthday packages for boys and girls in foster care statewide, the release said.
