Public comments sought for Scottsdale’s draft General Plan 2035

Scottsdale’s Citizen Review Committee will consider public comments and may make a recommendation on the final draft of the General Plan 2035 — the city’s 10-year guiding document.
Per state statute, Scottsdale is required to update and ratify a General Plan every 10 years. For myriad reasons, efforts to draft and approve a new General Plan have failed in recent efforts, and Scottsdale is still operating under its 2001 General Plan.
A city’s General Plan provides a guide for short- and long-term decision making, as well as day-to-day planning.
The General Plan is the primary tool for guiding the future of the city. It contains the community’s goals and policies on character and design, land use, open space and the natural environment, business and economics, neighborhood vitality, transportation and growth.
In addition to forming the physical shape of the city, the General Plan has other duties such as addressing community services, protecting desert and mountain lands and giving neighborhoods character.
The Citizen Review Committee has been reviewing a draft of General Plan 2035 since March, and is nearing the end of their review.
On Dec. 7, the Committee will consider comments and make a recommendation of a final draft General Plan 2035. The pan will then be reviewed by the community, municipal boards and commissions, Scottsdale Planning Commission and Scottsdale City Council.
Following the public review, the General Plan 2035 will be sent to the ballot next November for voter ratification consideration, per state law requirements.
Written comments will be accepted through noon, Friday, Dec. 4, the city’s website states.
