Four candidates seek three seats on Litchfield Park City Council

Litchfield Park residents will have a choice of four candidates for three open seats on the City Council when they go to the polls in the Aug. 4 primary election.

City Clerk Terri Roth drew names Monday evening, April 6 to determine ballot order. Incumbent Ann Donahue will appear first, followed by incumbent Ron Clair, challenger Kerry Giangobbe and incumbent John Romack. Litchfield Park’s council is comprised of a mayor and six councilmembers, elected to four-year terms. Deadline to register to vote in the primary is Monday, July 6.

Ms. Donahue moved to Litchfield Park in 1993 with her husband, John, and sons Molly and Jack. She worked for two years as a health educator with the Diabetes Association in Phoenix, then spent 10 years in marketing and sales with LifeScan Inc. before leaving to raise the couple’s children. After 18 years as a domestic engineer, she joined Litchfield Elementary School District as public information officer and community liaison in 2011, and retired from the district in May 2016.

She was elected to the council in 2016.

Mr. Clair was born at Ft. Huachuca while his father was stationed there, and moved with his family to Pennsylvania, Virgina, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. He attended the University of Florida, but left the structure of college to become an entrepreneur. He has been with All My Sons Moving & Storage for 20 years, and relocated from Dallas, Texas, to Litchfield Park in 2013 with his wife, Anne Shassetz Clair, and son, Austin. He serves as the company’s regional operations manager, covering all of Arizona, and mentors leaders of many of the company’s 68 offices throughout the company. He is a member of Rotary, has served on the city’s Recreation and Public Grounds Commission and is active in Mercy House in Cashion, providing assistance to local children in need.

He was appointed to the council in November 2019 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Councilman Peter Mahoney.

Ms. Giangobbe is owner and chief financial officer of Veincare of Arizona in Sun City West. She and her husband, Mitchell, are longtime Litchfield Park residents and the parents of two children. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and master’s degree from the University of Iowa and pursued doctoral studies at Arizona State University, executive leadership at Harvard and attended the Women’s Campaign School at Yale. She serves as Laguna Royale HOA’s president and is on board of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale. She is a member of the Princess Grace Foundation, Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations, YWCA Advocacy Engagement Council, Ellevate Network for professional women,

She ran for council in 2014 and 2018.

Mr. Romack is a Chicago native who moved to Litchfield Park in 1976 with his wife, Gay, and daughter. He founded Romack Builders, Ltd., specializing in commercial construction and custom home-building throughout Phoenix and Maricopa County, in 1978. The company’s community service projects include Habitat for Humanity and Family Promise. He serves on the city’s Design Review Board.

He was elected to the council in 2008 and reelected in 2012 and 2016.
