Andres-Schneider: Korte’s vision, leadership elevate Scottsdale community

Posted

Amidst the turmoil and divisiveness that have plagued the first half of 2020, we have an opportunity to set a positive path for Scottsdale going forward --- electing Virginia Korte as our mayor.

I had the pleasure of working with Virginia at the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, where she served as a board member, and later as its president and CEO. Throughout her Chamber leadership, Virginia advanced a comprehensive and inclusive vision for our city, and built the consensus necessary to bring it to life.

Virginia’s commitment to strategic and adaptive growth has been a hallmark of her tenure as a two-term City Councilmember. Her commitment is shaped by knowledge --- not only how businesses work, but also how people work. Because she rolls up her sleeves and works alongside them.

Virginia’s investment in Scottsdale transcends three decades, from learning the family business and ultimately managing 200+ employees at Ray Korte Chevrolet in south Scottsdale, to teaching biology at Scottsdale Community College.

These two endeavors only scratch the surface of Virginia’s diverse and robust resume, and speak volumes about how she will execute a key element of her platform: she understands firsthand the connection between education and experience --- particularly in science, business, and finance. These are the building blocks for high-wage jobs to enhance our city’s economic sustainability.

Virginia also served as president and CEO of Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services, a nonprofit organization committed to serving adults with developmental disabilities --- again demonstrating her commitment to providing opportunities for all citizens.

The issues our city faces aren’t getting any easier. Achieving a balance of quality of residential life with strategic growth, tourism, transportation, preservation, and sustainability requires the input of all citizens.

As our next mayor, Virginia plans to do just that --- and I look forward to learning more about Scottsdale Community Conversation 2050, which she unveiled at the May 27 candidates’ forum.

I can’t think of a better candidate to guide our city through these turbulent times. I am proud to support Virginia Korte for mayor.
